Toddler Programme · 2–3 years

A warm beginning
before a big world.

For toddlers, learning starts with feeling safe, understood and ready to take one small step away from the familiar.

What toddlers need first

Before “join in” comes “I feel safe here.”

Toddlers are learning to separate, communicate needs, move with confidence and trust people beyond home. We do not rush that beginning. Teachers learn the child’s cues and interests, build a familiar rhythm and gently invite participation.

01

To feel known

A familiar teacher notices the child’s signals, preferences and way of approaching something new.

02

To explore safely

Calm spaces, sensory materials and predictable routines give toddlers confidence to move, touch and discover.

03

To try in their own time

Support stays close without taking over, allowing participation and independence to grow naturally.

Monthly themes for toddlers

Familiar ideas, revisited in many playful ways.

A theme gives toddlers the comfort of recognition and the joy of discovering something new each time.

A theme such as My Senses, People Who Care for Me or Ready, Steady, Move! may appear through songs, stories, sensory play, movement, art and everyday conversation. Repetition helps new words and ideas become familiar, while real materials keep the experience active and meaningful.

Themes are planned across the year and may be adjusted as the children grow, respond and show us what they are ready to explore next.

Learning at this stage

Small moments carry enormous learning.

A song, a shared story, water between two cups or putting something back in its place can hold language, movement, thinking and belief in oneself all at once.

01

Communicate

Words, gestures, songs and conversation help children express needs and connect with others.

02

Move & discover

Sensory exploration and active play develop coordination, confidence and understanding.

03

Belong with others

Children begin to notice friends, take turns and participate in a small community.

04

Do more for myself

Carrying belongings, washing hands and returning materials become the first quiet steps towards independence.

05

Self Care, Hygiene & Manners

Children practise washing hands, caring for their belongings, eating neatly and using simple polite words with gentle guidance.

How the journey grows
